Residual current transformer (RCT) is a key device for detecting residual current (leakage current) in a circuit.

Its core function is to monitor abnormal current changes in the electrical system in real time, thereby preventing accidents such as electric shock and fire.

With the increasing complexity of modern power systems, the importance of leakage current transformers in industries such as industry, construction, and new energy has become increasingly prominent.

1. Safety protection of industrial power systems

In industrial scenarios, long-term high-load operation of large equipment can easily cause line aging or insulation damage, resulting in excessive leakage current.

The leakage current transformer can cut off the fault circuit within milliseconds by collecting residual current signals in real time and cooperating with relays or intelligent controllers.

For example, in an automated production line, RCT can not only protect equipment from ground fault damage, but also analyze potential risks through data recording to help achieve predictive maintenance.

2. Intelligent upgrade of building power distribution systems

Residual current protection devices (RCDs) are widely used in modern building power distribution systems, and RCT is its core sensing unit.

In commercial complexes or high-rise residential buildings, RCT is integrated into low-voltage power distribution cabinets to accurately detect microampere leakage current and prevent fires caused by short circuits and moisture leakage.

In addition, combined with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, RCT's real-time data can be uploaded to the cloud to achieve remote monitoring and energy efficiency management.

3. Innovative applications in the field of new energy

In photovoltaic power generation and electric vehicle charging systems, the leakage current problem is particularly prominent.

The DC side of the photovoltaic inverter is prone to leakage current due to insulation failure.

RCT can quickly identify faults and trigger protection to avoid system shutdown; in electric vehicle charging piles, RCT can detect vehicle body leakage to ensure user charging safety.

According to research, the installation of high-precision RCT can reduce the failure rate of new energy equipment by more than 30%.

4. Precision protection for medical and special environments

Medical places have extremely high requirements for electrical safety. If a small leakage current occurs in operating room equipment, it may endanger the patient's life.

RCT uses a high-sensitivity design (can detect 0.1mA current) and cooperates with a medical isolation power system to ensure the safe operation of medical equipment.

At the same time, in flammable and explosive environments such as mines and oil fields, explosion-proof RCT can effectively block the risk of electric sparks.
Technology trend: intelligence and high precision

At present, leakage current transformers are developing in the direction of miniaturization and intelligence.

For example, self-powered RCT does not require an external power supply and is suitable for field scenes; AI algorithm-driven RCT can distinguish between normal harmonics and real leakage signals to reduce false operations.

In the future, with the application of new materials (such as nanocrystalline magnetic cores), the detection accuracy and response speed of RCT will be further improved.
