How to test the performance and accuracy of current transformers?
The performance and accuracy of current transformers are important characteristics, and they are usually tested in the following aspects:
Appearance inspection:
First, observe whether the current transformer has obvious signs of cracking, deformation, burning, etc., and whether there is a smell of burnt insulation. These signs may indicate that the transformer is damaged.
Insulation resistance test:
Use the resistance range of the multimeter to measure the insulation resistance of the current transformer. Connect the red test lead of the multimeter to the primary side of the current transformer and the black test lead to the secondary side. If the insulation resistance value is lower than the specified value, it means that the insulation performance of the current transformer has deteriorated and needs to be repaired or replaced.
Ratio test:
The ratio test is an important method to judge the quality of the current transformer. First, switch the multimeter to the current range and measure the current on the primary side. Then, switch the multimeter to the voltage range and measure the voltage on the secondary side. According to the ratio formula: ratio = primary current / secondary current, calculate the actual ratio of the current transformer. If the actual ratio is significantly different from the nominal ratio, it means that there is a problem with the current transformer.
Accuracy test:
Accuracy test is a method to evaluate the measurement accuracy of current transformers. First, connect a current source with a known current value to the primary side of the current transformer. Then, measure the current value on the secondary side. According to the accuracy formula: Accuracy = (measured value - true value) / true value × 100%, calculate the accuracy of the current transformer. If the accuracy exceeds the specified range, it means that the measurement accuracy of the current transformer does not meet the standard.
Load test:
Load test is to evaluate the performance of the current transformer under different load conditions. First, connect current sources with different load values to the primary side of the current transformer in turn. Then, measure the current value on the secondary side and record the data. By comparing the measured values under different load conditions with the theoretical values, the load characteristics of the current transformer are evaluated.
Calibration and measurement errors:
Use standard current sources and high-precision measuring equipment to calibrate the current transformer and measure its basic errors, including the error at rated current, the error at rated voltage, the load error, and the temperature error.
Short-circuit impedance and phase angle error:
Measure the short-circuit impedance and phase angle error of the current transformer, which are critical to ensure the stability and safety of the current transformer in actual use.
Dynamic stability and thermal stability verification:
According to the rated current and time parameters of the current transformer, dynamic stability and thermal stability verification are performed to ensure its performance under specific fault conditions.
Through the above tests, the performance and accuracy of the current transformer can be fully evaluated to ensure its safe and accurate operation in the power system.
