Principle of current transformer?
The current transformer operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction, converting large currents from the primary side into smaller currents on the secondary side. It comprises a closed core and windings. The primary winding, with a small number of turns, integrates into the circuit of the current to be measure, carrying the full current load of the line.
Conversely, the secondary winding, featuring a relatively larger number of turns, connects in series with the measuring instrument and protection circuit. During operation, the secondary circuit of the current transformer remains closed, resulting in minimal impedance within the series coil of the measuring instrument and protection circuit.
This configuration effectively renders the working state of the current transformer akin to a short circuit. Consequently, it facilitates the conversion of primary side high currents into manageable secondary side currents for measurement purposes.
Therefore, it must be noted that the secondary side cannot be open circuit to ensure the normal operation and accuracy of the current transformer.
